PREVENTION: EMPOWERING YOUTH TO STAY OUT OF PRISON
|
|

 |
Our youth are searching – searching for some place to fit in,
for someone to show them what their life could be. Friends,
movies, music, and a myriad of other forces all beckon them to
lose themselves in their particular allure. PPM has a positive program to help youth see the consequences of wrong choices and point them to ways to make positive choices in both their personal and spiritual lives.

|
The following opportunities allow at-risk youth to learn how their decisions today can last a lifetime.
-
Presentations – Groups hear from ex-offenders about their poor choices and the consequences of ending up in prison. However, youth learn that prison wasn’t what enabled them to change—it was a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
-
Prison Tours – Going on a tour of a maximum-security prison lets youth see and hear first-hand what prison life is like. During group and individual follow-up PPM counselors can focus on what is going on in the individual’s life, and discuss how they can make the changes they desire to become productive and healthy members of their family and community. The personal follow-up and mentoring is what separates this program from other so-called “Scared Straight" programs.
-
Mentoring – To make lasting change youth need mentors and role models to guide them into making better choices. Helping them get connected to other wholesome organizations is vital to their spiritual growth. It is this part of the program that distinguishes itself from other “field trips.”
